We are undoubtedly facing a tough economic climate. Each day brings news of decreased profits, layoffs and salary freezes at companies around the country. President Obama has warned that things are likely to get worse before they get better. Many believe that we are living in the most economically challenging era since the Great Depression. Let’s face it, it is downright gloomy, and the outlook for nonprofits in 2009 is even gloomier. According to the United Way of Metropolitan of Atlanta, 80 percent of non- profits in the area have seen increased demand, yet only 24 percent of those non-profits will be able to meet that demand. Due to the dismal economic climate, non-profits face shrinking resources while demand for assistance increases. During these tough times, what can an individual or company do to help out?
Wikipedia defines Corporate Social Responsibility as a concept wherby organizations consider the interest of society by taking responsibility for the impact of their activities on customers, suppliers, employers, shareholders, communities and other stakeholders, as well as on the environment. For some organizations, charitable giving seems like the easiest expense to eliminate during an economic crisis. However, the fact is that during an economic disaster, it is even more important to do as much as we can. Often it is the people who are already struggling who are impacted the most by an economic downturn. A recent article from the New York Times stated that the demand for food aid had risen 20 percent in areas of the country with the healthiest economies and more than 40 percent in areas with the weakest. In some cases, food centers have been turning away the hungry because of a lack of resources.
Trevelino/Keller has had a CSR program since 2006, and we take this program to heart. That is why each quarter four employees are charged with finding a charitable organization to receive a donation from Trevelino/Keller. The rules are simple, the charity must either focus on kids (many of us are parents) and/or the environment (we have a green practice and obviously the environment is a growing concern.)
In 2008, Trevelino Keller donated to the following organizations:
Like most companies today, we are looking at our expenses and trying to be smart in the way in which we manage them in the current environment. But at the same time, we realize the importance of our CSR program, even more so now than ever. As of right now, our CSR program remains the same. We still plan to donate on a quarterly basis starting this February. We would like to encourage all those who have the means to donate what they can -- no amount is too small. To make an impact one is not limited to monetary donations – a donation of time and/or skills is enough to make a difference. As former first lady Barbara Bush once said, "Some people give time, some money, some their skills and connections, some literally give their life's blood. But everyone has something to give."
Don't you know that it's the best time to receive the business loans, which can make you dreams real.
